Visa
Application

Who needs to apply for a visa for Switzerland?
Depending on your nationality, it is likely that you will need to apply for an entry visa to study in Switzerland.
EU/EFTA Nationals
If you hold a passport from a country in the European Union (EU) or from a European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member state, you do not need to apply for a study visa (Type D visa- for a stay over 90 days).
Non-EU/EFTA Nationals
If you do not hold a passport from one of these countries, you must apply for a study visa (Type D visa- for a stay over 90 days) to enter Switzerland.
If you are unsure whether or not you need to apply for a visa to enter Switzerland, please check with your Educational Counselor or visit the website. →
If you need to apply for a visa: Please check the visa document received in your acceptance package, or the documents on our website →
When & how should I apply?
You should apply for your study visa as soon as you receive your acceptance package. It can take up to three months to obtain your visa, so please make an appointment with the Swiss Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence as soon as you receive your acceptance package.
Book your accommodation
Collect your visa when ready

Once you have presented all the documents for the visa, you will have to wait for notification before returning to the Embassy / Consulate to have the original entry visa (sticker) stamped in your passport and to ensure that all formalities have been completed. The final issuance of the visa remains at the discretion of the Swiss authorities regardless of an acceptance decision by the school.
You should receive the original entry visa at the Embassy / Consulate where you applied. However, if you need to pick it up in a different place, you must inform the Embassy / Consulate (as well as your Educational Counselor) when you apply.
Book your flight tickets
After having received your visa to enter the country, please remember to book your flight/train ticket to arrive exactly on the date shown in your acceptance letter.
