Practical information

Spain

Spain, Europe’s second-largest country, captivates with its rich blend of art, culture, and architecture. Its vibrant cities—Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Seville, and Malaga—are home to world-renowned museums, monuments, castles, and palaces, showcasing its diversity in language, customs, and climate.

A global tourism hub, Spain welcomes millions annually to experience its distinctive way of life, rooted in a tradition of hospitality. A European Union member since 1986, Spain hosted the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, World Expos in Seville (1992), and Zaragoza (2008). With a population of 47 million, it’s known for its family-oriented, safe society.

Spain boasts breathtaking landscapes, from beaches and forests to deserts and mountains, being Europe’s second most mountainous country after Switzerland. The country is celebrated for its gastronomy, wine regions, and open-air festivals.

Andalusia and Marbella

On Spain’s southern coast lies Andalusia, a region of eight provinces with 8.4 million inhabitants. A historic cultural crossroads, Andalusia remains a top tourist destination with modern infrastructure, preserved cultural heritage, and rich biodiversity.

In Andalusia’s Costa del Sol, Marbella is a leading tourist destination renowned for its Mediterranean cuisine, cosmopolitan lifestyle, mild climate, and safety—making it an ideal study-abroad location. Marbella boasts the highest concentration of luxury hotels and golf courses in Europe, offering a blend of nature, sports, culture, and leisure.

Located 45 minutes from Malaga’s international airport and 55 minutes from the train station, Marbella offers excellent connectivity. You can reach Madrid or Barcelona within an hour by flight or explore Morocco and Africa via a 45-minute ferry to Tangier.

Weather

Marbella enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters (10–25ºC) and hot summers (25–35ºC), often softened by the sea breeze. Summer temperatures can occasionally reach 40ºC.

Time Zone

Spain operates on Central European Time (CET), GMT+1.

Currency

The currency is the Euro (EUR), divided into 100 cents. Currency exchange is available at banks, airports, train stations, and hotels.
